This meaningful service project will fill both hearts and bellies! Kids will work side by side with their caregivers at Happy Place Cooking Space to prepare a delicious meal for residents of Homes of Hope Street, a transitional housing facility that supports individuals and families as they work toward stability and hope. The meal will be shared at their weekly Tuesday family dinner, a time set aside for connection, encouragement and community.
Activities
We will kick off our time together with a snack and a story to introduce the importance of food and community in an engaging way.
Then we will put on aprons and get cooking! Guided by teaching staff at Happy Place Cooking Space, this project is designed for young children and their caregivers to work together using kid-friendly tools to make a simple enchilada bake. Your child will learn so many great cooking skills, and you will all walk away with a great recipe to try at home.
We are asking each family to bring one 8 oz. container of sour cream. The kids love having something to contribute! (But, if you cannot – please let us know. We understand!)
Impact
This project is designed for young children and their caregivers to experience the joy of giving back in a hands-on way. Together we’ll chop, stir, and create something nourishing that reminds residents that they are cared for and not alone on their journey.
