Children will pack winter kit packs for individuals in the Waukesha Community who are facing homelessness.
They will receive these kits through the Stone Soup Project at one of their dinner services or at
Waukesha Mutual Aid Network’s Community Food Share.

Activities

We will begin with an interactive story time and songs. During this time, we will read an age-appropriate book that introduces the topic of homelessness and helps children understand the experiences of individuals facing housing insecurity.

Next, participants will decorate inspirational notecards to include in the winter kits. These cards will contain encouraging messages meant to uplift individuals who receive the kits. Afterward, we will work together in an assembly line to pack bags with hats, mittens, blankets, socks, and hand and feet warmers. These kits will be distributed to individuals during dinner service at the Stone Soup Project or at Waukesha Mutual Aid Network’s Community Food Share, supporting community members experiencing homelessness.

Impact

Participating in this service activity helps volunteers better understand the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness while also showing how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Working together to prepare the kits for distribution through the Stone Soup Project and Waukesha Mutual Aid Network reinforces the importance of community support, compassion, and teamwork.

Our Partner

The Stone Soup Project (SSP) is a community-based meal program in Waukesha, Wisconsin, dedicated to ensuring that no neighbor goes hungry. What began as one person delivering meals to individuals in need has grown into a collaborative effort that provides hot, home-style meals to anyone who is hungry. Meals are served three days a week—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 4:00 p.m.—from a central distribution site at 409 E. Main Street. The program is powered by volunteers and community donations, bringing people together in the spirit of shared responsibility and compassion. Learn more about the Stone Soup Project.

Waukesha Mutual Aid Network (WMAN) is a growing collective of local community members. Their mission is to work together to meet the needs of the community through shared resources, education, skills, and support. WMAN hosts monthly community food shares which is “bring what you can, take what you need” which helps break down any barriers for individuals in need and gives them direct access to food and hygiene items.
