Kids and adults don’t always approach and pet dogs in a safe way. KIC Junior Leader Maddie (age 10) would like to change that with a mini-lesson with a dog expert!
Activities
A dog expert from the Milwaukee Dog Training Club will lead a mini lesson on how to approach a dog, how to read dog body language, and what to do if an unknown dog approaches you. You will also get to practice safely giving dogs a treat to dogs in attendance.
Then, we will work together to make tug toys for dogs currently living at the Humane Society by braiding and knotting fleece fabric. We’ll have the supplies and teach you how to make the toys!
Optional: Your family is invited to bring other items from the Humane Society’s wish list. We’ll deliver those items along with the tug toys.
Impact
It will teach adults and kids alike how to approach dogs safely, minimizing bite incidents. We’ll also be supporting dogs who don’t have a home yet.

Junior Leader Program
KIC invites more youth leaders (ages 9-14) to create service opportunities to engage their peers and work on solutions in the community. If you know of a motivated youth who has an idea to make a positive contribution to our community, please have them learn more and complete a Junior Leader application.
