Bring your little one(s) to Hamilton House for a special intergenerational experience where children and older adults can play, learn and connect.
Our monthly 45-minute playgroups offer a welcoming, relaxed environment for young children to meet new friends while brightening the day of our grandfriends at Hamilton House. Through simple, engaging activities, children have the opportunity to learn patience and respect for older adults, how joy is contagious, and to build social skills while interacting with people of different ages and abilities.
The relationships that grow through these playgroups make this experience so meaningful. By participating regularly, children and residents have the chance to become familiar with one another and look forward to seeing each other each month. Our grandfriends truly delight in the smiles and energy our children bring from just being themselves.
Activities
Each playgroup follows a familiar structure to help both children and residents feel comfortable and engaged.
We begin with a hello song, followed by:
-
- – Story
- – Simple craft
- – Themed activity
- – Free play
- – Goodbye song
Each month will feature a fun new theme and activities designed to encourage interaction between children, caregivers and Hamilton House residents.
Impact
Intergenerational playgroups boost the social and emotional health for everyone involved by fostering empathy in children, reducing isolation in seniors, and strengthening a sense of belonging, purpose, and community spirit.
Our friends at Hamilton House benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children. Residents in the memory care unit of Hamilton House will have a chance to be around our energetic and humorous littles and offer their love and gentle care for them.
