Enjoy a cherished experience with your children and grandfriends from Hamilton House Senior Living in a true intergenerational fashion. This is a great chance for your little one(s) to get out to meet new kids and brighten the day of seniors in our community.
Activities
Our playgroup will provide an opportunity to children, parents and assisted living residents to interact and play with each other in a relaxed and friendly environment. We will open with a hello song to break the ice and introduce ourselves to the group. Then we will all work together creating inspirational posters that will bring joy and comfort to children going through cancer treatments at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Each family will also take turns handing out lemonade to Hamilton House residents in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
What is Alex’s Lemonade Stand ? Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. By the time Alex passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a worldwide fundraising movement and the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the U.S. ALSF is a leader in funding pediatric cancer research projects across the globe and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer. For more information, visit AlexsLemonade.org.
Impact
Intergenerational playgroups boost the social and emotional health for everyone involved by fostering empathy in children, reducing isolation in seniors and strengthening a sense of belonging, purpose and community spirit.
All the participants in this group will get to use their unique talents to bring cheer to patients at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin through inspirational posters.
