Bring your little one(s) to Hartland Terrace for a special intergenerational experience where children and older adults can play, learn, and connect.
Our monthly playgroups offer a welcoming, relaxed environment for young children to meet new friends while brightening the day of our grandfriends at Hartland Terrace. Through simple, engaging activities children have the opportunity to learn patience and respect for older adults, how joy is contagious, and to build social skills while interacting with people of different ages and abilities.
The relationships that grow through these playgroups make this experience so meaningful. By participating regularly, children and residents have the chance to become familiar with one another and look forward to seeing each other each month. Our grandfriends truly delight in the smiles and energy our children bring from just being themselves.
This project is also hosted in collaboration with Lake Country Mom Movement offering a coffee shop meet-up and short walk to and from the assisted living facility. Connect with caregivers at similar ages and stages!
Activities
Each playgroup follows a familiar structure to help both children and residents feel comfortable and engaged.
We begin with a hello song, followed by:
- – Simple craft
- – Themed activity
- – Free play
- – Goodbye song
Each month will feature a fun new theme and activities designed to encourage interaction between children, caregivers, and Hartland Terrace residents.
Impact
Intergenerational playgroups boost the social and emotional health for everyone involved by fostering empathy in children, reducing isolation in seniors, and strengthening a sense of belonging, purpose, and community spirit.
When & Where
Join us every month through the end of the year from 9-11:30 a.m.
- – Friday, September 11
- – Thursday, October 22
- – Thursday, November 19
- – Friday, December 18
During these Friday’s, you can also join the Lake Country Mom Movement (LCMM) before and/or after our time at Hartland Terrace!

- – Meet at Birch and Banyon Coffee: 9-9:30 a.m. – 150 E Capitol Drive, Hartland WI 53029 (Birch and Banyon will be offering a discount on drinks for LCMM participants)
- – Walk to Hartland Terrace: 9:30-10 a.m. (0.6 mile walk) – 327 North Avenue, Hartland, WI 53029
- – Intergenerational Playgroup: 10-11 a.m.
- – Walk back to Birch and Banyon Coffee: 11-11:30 a.m. (0.6 mile walk)
Please Note: We are encouraging participants to sign up for the entire session if possible. If there are only a few dates you can make in the session, please indicate your availability during registration. Signing up for a session helps the residents see familiar faces and helps to ensure participation in our playgroup. We send out monthly emails with details. Please reach out with questions.

Cancellations: We count on our registered volunteers to make these projects come to life. However, we understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you can no longer participate, please email brianna@kicmke.org ASAP so we can fill your spot.

The Lake Country Mom Movement is a community-focused group in Wisconsin offering support, connection, and events for mothers, including regular mom walks. Founded to foster “village” building, it provides free or low-cost activities like stroller-friendly walks, coffee meetups, and park playdates.
