Your kids will work with grandfriends in the memory care unit at Hamilton House to create posters encouraging residents participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. These posters will generate interest in the walk amongst residents and hopefully recruit more walkers.

Activities

We will open with a hello song to break the ice and introduce ourselves to our grandfriends followed by craft time. Then we will spend time together listening to music and chatting while we create the posters.

We will also assemble snack bags to distribute to Hamilton House walkers at the end of the walk. If you are able, we’d love help gathering supplies such as granola bars, meat sticks, mini water bottles or a snack mix to include in the snack bags! Add your family name next to the item you wish to bring here. At the end of our time together we will tidy the space and sing our goodbye song.

If you’d like to join the Hamilton House Team to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Port Washington on October 4 –  Sign up here!
On the day of the walk, we will also take volunteers to hold signs to encourage walkers. We’ll meet up before the walk to decorate support posters to encourage walkers along the route. More details to come!

Impact

Intergenerational playgroups give children a true inter-generational experience while learning patience, kindness and the skills to make new friends. Children will develop awareness and relationships with members of the community they would otherwise not meet.

Our friends at Hamilton House benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children. Residents in the memory care unit of Hamilton House will have a chance to be around our energetic and humorous littles and offer their love and gentle care for them.  All the participants in this group will get to use their unique talents to bring cheer to walkers participating in the Alzheimer’s walk.
