Work with your child at the Kinship Community Food Center (formerly called Riverwest Food Pantry) – an organization focused on coming together around food to relieve hunger, improve lives and grow community well-being. While their name has changed, their mission is still the same! Kinship empowers residents to create nourishment, belonging and prosperity in low-income communities through the power of food.

Activities

You and your child will assist shoppers with registration and grocery selection, help shoppers carry bags, serve snacks and share food with shoppers, and clean up. Hands-on orientation and assignments given upon arrival.

The shelves at Kinship are constantly in need of restocking. Please consider bringing a donation of non-perishable food items or hygiene products with you to help fill their shelves!  We will also be collecting reusable bags to donate to the pantry. Their goal is to eliminate as many plastic shopping bags as possible. If you have extra reusable bags at home, please consider bringing some with you to donate!

Impact

Help to eliminate food insecurity in Milwaukee and dissolve barriers of division as the community comes together at a common table. Your child will be immersed in an environment where they will help others and also be mentored in acts of dignity and grace by those very same people. Kinship Community Food Center embodies their motto: In a community of generosity everyone gives and everyone receives!

When & Where

Saturday, June 21 from 7:45-11 a.m.

St. Casimir’s Parish Hall

924 E. Clarke St, Milwaukee

The hall is located on the basement level of the school building behind Our Lady of Divine Providence Parish/St. Casimir. Volunteer entrance doors are on the west side of the building in the alley between the church and the school. On Saturday mornings we ask that volunteers find street parking (on Clarke or Weil) as the lot is reserved for shoppers.

Registration Information

Participant Cap: 10 volunteers

Age: Ages 6+ strongly recommended. If you have a child that is younger, please reach out to Lizzy at lizzy@kicmke.org prior to signing up to discuss the possibility of bringing them. We also recommend at least one parent/guardian for every 2 children under the age of 10 years.

Materials:Please dress casually with closed-toe shoes and keep all your valuables at home. Wear your Kids Impact Community shirt if you have one!

Cost: Free. Kinship Community Food Center does accept non-perishable food donations if your family would like to bring something to donate.
