Empowering women and girls in their health is a passion at Cultivate Your Wellbeing. The benefits of this workshop are twofold. First, educating our girls to understand how lifestyle and diet impact their periods and overall health with practical tips for healthy living. Second, to create “period kits” to be distributed to women and girls who do not have access to period products (1 in 4 women and girls do not have access to period products).

Activities

This workshop is designed for girls and their caregivers. It will be divided into two parts:

  • – For the first half, Katie Tredo and Jennie Klauer from Cultivate Your Wellbeing will speak to girls and their caregivers about “period health” to empower girls to take control of their health instead of only being provided with limited options. This workshop is not designed to take the place of human growth and development or explain the physiology of the reproductive system. Instead, it is an opportunity to learn health and wellness tips to support healthy periods and healthy girls that are often not taught elsewhere. We recommend that girls have either had a class on human growth and development at school or have had detailed conversations with their caregivers and are informed about the menstrual cycle before attending.
  • – During the second part of the workshop, the girls will learn what period poverty is and assemble “period kits” with pads, tampons, and a personal note to be donated to Mr. Bob’s Under The Bridge and distributed through their Outreach Program. Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge is a local organization with a vision to create a welcoming community in which every person receives their basic necessities, guidance, hope, and compassion.

Impact

The girls (and caregivers) who attend will learn healthy lifestyle tips, symptom management outside of the typical NSAIDs or hormonal pills often given to control periods, and how to look at their period as an important vital sign for their health. In past workshops, we have had caregivers comment on how much they learned right along with their girls!

Our Partner

Cultivate Your Wellbeing was created to provide individualized, holistic, skilled physical therapy and wellness. We are passionate about educating our patients and community about Pelvic Health and empowering you to be your best health advocate. We understand that finding solutions to complex health issues can be extremely frustrating. Many of our patients have experienced being dismissed by a medical provider, given generalized treatment options that did not address the root cause of their issue, or felt limited in treatment choices by their insurance leading them to spend countless hours doing their research and experimenting to improve their health.

The physical therapists at Cultivate Your Wellbeing will listen to patients’ stories and guide them to achieve their own unique goals. We are honored to work with each patient that comes through our doors. With a commitment to continued learning and over 15 years of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy experience, we are dedicated to partnering with our clients in their health and helping them find answers!
