Help Acts Housing’s first-time homeowners celebrate their achievements with a housewarming gift bag! Together, we will put youth creativity to work by decorating kitchen towels at Cloud 9 Workshop. We will add these unique towels to gift bags with dish soap, hand soap, a sponge, and a keychain for their new house key!

Families who purchase homes with Acts Housing frequently save on monthly housing costs compared to what they previously paid in rent. With a median household income of $38,000 – $60,000 per year, many Acts families used to pay half their income or more on subpar rental housing. After becoming homeowners, parents can use their savings and equity in more meaningful and critical ways. In 2023, Acts helped get 485 kids into safe and stable housing!

Activities

We will kick off our time together by reading a picture book about housing insecurity and talking about the “why” of our project. Next, kids and their caregivers will decorate a kitchen towel using fabric paint. Don’t worry – we’ll guide you! We invite our youth volunteers to bring one hand soap and one dish soap to include in these kitchen housewarming gift bags. Together we will assemble each gift bag with care. We will also invite the kids to select a keychain (designed by kids at our MLK Day event in January) and decorate a small inspirational card to add to it to create the perfect kitchen housewarming gift bag!

Impact

Kids will put their creativity to work for good while gaining an understanding of the importance of safe and stable homes. Our gift bag will celebrate and provide a sweet housewarming to first-time homeowners who have worked hard to overcome barriers to homeownership.
