Families will have the opportunity to experience the miracle of the Monarch life cycle and help foster caterpillars and butterflies with grandfriends at Newcastle Place, an assisted living facility. During this process, kids will interact with the seniors and develop organic intergenerational relationships.
Register
Families can register for one or multiple dates:
Introductory session – July 17: Families are encouraged (but not required) to attend this introductory session to learn more about the Monarch life cycle before they attend the follow up sessions:
Activities
Once your child gets an introductory lesson on the Monarch life cycle, they will spend the follow up sessions “hunting” for milkweed, Monarch eggs, and caterpillars in nature. We will always meet in the Newcastle Place Highlands lobby and then travel in individual vehicles to a nearby park or walking path to search. We will then return to Newcastle to refresh the habitat, milkweed, and introduce any new eggs or baby caterpillars to the established habitat. If any butterflies have emerged and are ready to be released, we will share this experience with the residents.
Impact
Through this fun activity, seniors and families will get to engage in conversations and foster not only butterflies but relationships. Memories will be created that will last a long time!
When & Where
Sessions are scheduled between July 17 to August 26 so families and seniors can share in the whole monarch life cycle.
Sign up for one or all sessions. They will always take place between 1-2 p.m.
