Kids Impact Community is excited to return to Shechem Community Center to support their annual Back to School Celebration. Together, we’ll help local children and families prepare for the school year by distributing backpacks and school supplies while creating a fun, encouraging environment for everyone attending.
Volunteers will primarily assist with handing out school supplies, greeting families, and helping the event run smoothly. If you have a special talent such as face painting, balloon twisting, nail painting, magic, music, games, or another engaging activity for children, we’d love for you to share your gifts to help make the afternoon extra special!
Whether you’re helping a child pick up school supplies, sharing a smile, or creating a fun memory, you’ll play an important role in helping students start the school year feeling supported and celebrated.
Activities
Volunteer opportunities may include:
– Distributing backpacks and school supplies
– Greeting and assisting families
– Helping with event flow and setup as needed
– Providing family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon art, nail painting, simple games, music or other special talents (optional)
1. The Gathering’s executive director’s home in the Sherman Park neighborhood (Sundays)
2. Shechem at Hope Street (2510 W. Capitol Drive) (Mondays)
We will send an email detailing the pick-up and drop-off procedures to interested families. We ask for a three-month commitment to this project (June, July, August).
Impact
By serving together, volunteers will help ensure local students begin the school year with the supplies they need to succeed, welcome and encourage children and families through positive community connections, and use their time and talents to bring joy, confidence and belonging to children as they head back to school.

Serve the full event or one of two shifts:
-Shift #1: 1-2:30 pm
-Shift #2: 2:30-4:00 pm

Cancelations: We count on our registered volunteers to make these projects come to life. However, we understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you can no longer participate, please email lynn@kicmke.org ASAP so we can fill your spot.
