Art Kits for Caring Kids

REGISTER HERE

Coronavirus left so many of our elderly community members feeling alone due to needing to be isolated from others for their health and safety and visitors are being limited again. While our playgroups at some facilities have resumed, not every family can participate and would still like to contribute to bringing smiles to the faces of our grandfriends. Artwork created by our kids and photos of them can bring great joy to them.

Activities

Help bring joy to our “grandfriends” living in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities throughout the Milwaukee area by having your children make artwork provided in our “Art Kits for Caring Kids”.

Your child or children will complete three projects using the materials supplied by KIC in the art kit. Your children can add additional personal touches with any of your own art and craft supplies. We loved to see the kids’ creativity with each month’s art projects! The recipients of the artwork would love to receive a photo of your child(ren) and/or a note to accompany their artwork if you are comfortable with that.

Purpose

To bring joy to the residents at the skilled nursing and assisted living facilities throughout the Milwaukee area.

Impact

Children will learn that something they create can bring joy to others.

When & Where

You get to assemble at your own home.

Your family will pick up a prepared art kit from the front porch box at 5524 N Diversey Blvd., Whitefish Bay between the dates of June 10th and 18th between the hours of noon and 9 p.m. Details of the projects and pictures of examples of completed projects will be provided in the follow-up email you will receive after signing up and instructions will be provided in the kit. If families are in need of any of the supplies not normally provided to complete the projects, they can contact Kristin, the project leader, and KIC can provide these items.

Return completed artwork in the storage bag to the same address any time before 6 p.m. on June 25th. Projects can be turned in any day between pick up and June 25th.

More Information

Some of the art projects will be distributed by Operation Sunshine. Operation Sunshine was started in March 2020 by two sisters as a way to support their community.

“The purpose of Operation Sunshine is to bring some “sunshine,” encouragement, love, and support to our elderly community, primarily in nursing homes and long-term care facilities (but also isolated at home). Our main goal with Operation Sunshine is to support and encourage nursing home and long-term care facility residents. We deliver whatever we can get that might bring a little light to someone’s day.”
