This summer, KIC launched its inaugural KIC Connects Summer Service Series – Building Resiliency and Friendship Across Zip Codes which includes monthly service projects uniting KIC families with youth served by Hope Street Ministry.
Join us at Shechem Community Center for our FIFTH and final service session!
Many KIC volunteers come from the suburban greater Milwaukee area, while Hope Street Ministry is in central Milwaukee’s 53206 zip code. By bridging geographic and social divides, we hope to empower young volunteers from KIC and Shechem to feel connected, capable, and confident as they work on service projects together.
These hands-on service projects also teach essential life skills including communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and a strong work ethic – equipping youth to become engaged citizens in their community.
In addition to our service project, we will include social activities for the youth to play, laugh and enjoy summertime fun together!
Activities
Join us at this session for Creating Shine On! Hygiene Kits for Kids.
The session will begin with a brief photo slideshow highlighting moments from our KIC Connects Summer Service Series, followed by a time to enjoy snacks and connect with new friends.
Then, in our “take one, give one” service project, each child will decorate two canvas pouches and fill them with hygiene items tailored for kids and teens—one to keep and one to donate to the Shechem community needs basket. This creative, hands-on activity allows participants to express kindness while learning the value of giving back.
By combining meaningful service with fun and social connection, this project helps kids from across Milwaukee build friendships and community while promoting dignity, wellness, and compassion for others.
Impact
At the KIC Connects Summer Service Series, we intend to:
-
- – Deepen Family & Community Connections: By engaging children in positive activities, we create spaces where families can bond and connect with others.
- – Increase Engagement in Positive Activities: Youth will engage throughout the summer in unique service projects, nurturing confidence and reinforcing a culture of kindness and mutual support.
- – Increase Access to Essential Resources: Assembling hygiene kits for Shechem kids, providing meals, and creating welcome baskets directly meets basic needs such as food, health, and childcare resources for families.
- – Promote Community Connectedness & Safety: Group service projects bring people together, strengthening trust and fostering a safe, inclusive environment.
- – Celebrate the Power of Arts & Creativity: Whether through baking or crafting for others, creative expression will play a vital role in reinforcing a sense of belonging.
