Join KIC in supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation fundraiser! Give your child the opportunity to interact with assisted living residents at Hamilton House in a relaxed, friendly, playful, and organized environment. During the playgroup time, they will take turns handing out lemonade to Hamilton House residents and anyone else who chooses to stop by for the fundraiser. Others will create posters that will bring joy and comfort to a child going through cancer treatments at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

What is Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation? Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. By the time Alex passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a worldwide fundraising movement and the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the U.S. ALSF is a leader in funding pediatric cancer research projects across the globe and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer. Activities

We will open with a hello song to break the ice and introduce ourselves to the group, and then begin our lemonade stand and craft time. The lemonade stand will be held on the senor living side of Hamilton House, close to the check in desk. Posters will be created in a conference room area. Each family will have a turn serving lemonade. At the end of our time together, the group will tidy the space before wrapping up and saying goodbye.

Impact

Intergenerational playgroups give children a true inter-generational experience while learning patience, kindness, and how to make new friends. Children will develop awareness of and relationships with members of the community they would otherwise not meet. Our friends at Hamilton House benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children. Residents in the memory care unit of Hamilton House will have a chance to be around our energetic and humorous littles and offer their love and gentle care for them. All the participants in this group will get to use their unique talents to bring cheer to patients at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin as well. The children at CHW and their families will be comforted by the posters and items purchased to bring them some cheer through a challenging time.
