Halloween isn’t just for kids – it’s a celebration that brings joy to all generations!

Our partnership with Saint John’s began many years ago with an invitation to attend their trick-or-treat event–it was one of our first projects! Sharing the joy of costumes, treats, and community with our grandfriends at Saint John’s continues to be a highlight every year.

That initial event led to our regular monthly intergenerational playgroups. Saint John’s is our original and longest running intergenerational playgroup!

Activities

Caregivers and children will trick-or-treat throughout the facility. Please have your child wear a costume (adults are welcome to dress up too!)

You will be greeted in the front entrance and then guided to trick-or-treat throughout the first floor Town Center following a marked path. Treat stations are scattered along the path and run by festive residents and huge smiles. 

At the end of the trick-or-treating trail, you will exit into the South Cultural Arts Center. Staff will be serving hot dogs, punch, and treats to all of the families who attend. Please feel free to eat and spend some time mingling with residents and other families. Encourage your children to engage, chat, and make new friends!

Children of employees as well as grandkids of residents have also been invited to attend–you will see lots of new faces!

Impact

By simply showing their unique personalities, our children will bring joy and smiles to residents and learn how friendships can form across generations. For residents, these interactions decrease feelings of isolation, spark joy and fill the halls with life and excitement.

**This is a drop-in event. Come when you can and stay as long as you’d like!

Parking: Park on the street or in the south parking lot which offers angle parking spots just south of the south tower. Enter from Prospect Ave.

Participant Cap: 60 participants

Ages: All ages welcome!

Cost: Free

Materials: Come wearing your favorite costume and bring a bag or bucket for trick-or-treating!

Cancellations: We count on our registered volunteers to make these projects come to life. However, we understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you can no longer participate, please email hannah@kicmke.org ASAP so we can fill your spot.
