2023 MLK Series Impact

This January, Kids Impact Community celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. by helping kids and families spread Dr. King’s message of equality and love. Their impact was captured in this video and through the below stats.

  • 200 kids, parents, and caregivers learned about Martin Luther King Jr. through story time with Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and celebrated the National Day of Service with Meagan Johnson from the Milwaukee Diaper Mission culminating in a diaper dash donation.
  • 3,800+ diapers and 75 packages of wipes were donated to the Milwaukee Diaper Mission.
  • 125 Fostering Hope Duffel Bags were assembled by kid leaders and delivered to Kids Matter Inc. to support children entering foster care.
  • 30+ KIC kids (ages five and under) created a self-portrait art display at the North Shore Library to celebrate our similarities and differences in honor of MLK Day.
  • Seven families assisted 64 households at Kinship Community Food Center in selecting groceries, carrying bags, serving snacks, and cleaning up – reducing poverty through the power of food.
  • 100 hot and nutritious taco dinners were distributed at St. Vincent de Paul’s meal service.
  • Four small and mighty thinkers talked about big ideas like racism, racial justice, and how small actions can make a difference.
  • 560+ lunches packed for Just One More Ministry supporting Milwaukee residents struggling with food insecurity.

THANK YOU to Johnson Financial Group for generously sponsoring our Martin Luther King Jr. Day project series, enabling us to continue to expand this important work!

Kids Helping Kids with Our Next Generation

There is nothing more beautiful than kids helping kids! 40+ families went shopping to make sure that the youth served by Our Next Generation (ONG) are ready to start their school year off strong with a fresh set of new school supplies.

After working hard to bring in all of the heavy stuffed backpacks, we went on a tour of ONG and saw kids taking piano lessons, gardening, and learning about US states. We were even introduced to the goats living on the property this summer by teens who are learning animal husbandry. We rounded out the tour with a fast and furious game of tag on the playground with the ONG kids. It was a beautiful morning!

Gardening for Good – ADOPT A WEEK – Parkway

Herbs, eggplant, strawberries, squash, tomatoes, and so much more!

All of these delicious treats await the sun, water, and care by our very own KIC families who will tend to the gardens with our ADOPT-A-WEEK project.

Thank you to all of the families who have come out so far this summer to fill our garden beds with plants that we hope will bear many fruits, veggies, and herbs to share with Kinship Community Food Center later this summer and fall.

Your helping hands and loving hearts will help nourish the bodies and souls of our neighbors.

There’s still time for your family to ADOPT A WEEK with the Gardening for Good project.

Milwaukee Diaper Mission

Thank you to the families who participated  in our partnership with the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, it was a huge success. We packaged approximately 15,0000 diapers either in person or at home. Milwaukee Diaper Mission acts as Milwaukee’s basic needs bank, partnering with local social service agencies to provide a reliable source of basic essentials for the families they serve.

TIE BLANKET COMFORT KITS FOR GREAT LAKE HOSPICE

We are so grateful for the families who participated in this project with Great Lakes Hospice! Our KIC families tied over 20 blankets that were delivered to the residents at this location. The blankets were full of color and several included a special hand written note from the kids who worked hard to tie each strand! The hospice coordinator was so happy to receive them all and said the blankets will bring a smile those who are comforted by them and most likely will remind them of their own grandchildren!
