“Make A Difference Day” was one of those days where the sequence of events was so perfect you just knew it was meant to be… KIC had two groups out to assist with fall cleanups around MKE. One group arrived to their planned location only to find the area had already been cleaned. This group ended up joining the Shorewood Community Center cleanup event, who unexpectedly had an extra property that needed tending to. The homeowner was in the hospital and the neighbor, who was dog sitting for him, came out to let the kids meet and pet his dog. Though a little scrambled to start, the day ended with the feeling a difference had been made for everyone involved 🧡
We cleaned up 7 large bags of garbage and one big car part as well as several large sticks. Four kids (ages 4-10) and 3 adults and we made it ahead of the snow and rain coming today! Looking forward to working in another Waukesha park soon!
This was our second year participating in the citywide Make a Difference Day. We even got to return to the home that we spruced up last year in 2016. The purpose of this event is to visit yards of the elderly in the fall to get to all those tasks that have become hard for them.
It was an absolute pleasure helping Miss B with getting her yard ready for the winter today. We had 10 families (lots of big and little hands!) trimming bushes, raking leaves and chopping down brush. Miss B was beyond appreciative. She remembered us from last year and was overwhelmed at all of the families who came out to be “such a blessing” to her. A highlight was being able to sing “Happy Birthday” to her! (She recently turned 90!!!) Thanks to all the families who came out in this cold weather to make warm memories!!
