SUMMARY:Learn About Robotics and Pollution Prevention
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\nPlastic in the ocean and our waterways is a lo
cal and global issue. Join KIC Junior Leader Ayan and his robotics team\,
The Syntax of Smart\, to learn about the robot they built to remove pollut
ion from lakes and oceans. Their team is a part of First Tech Challenge -
an STEM-focused organization that invites kids ages 12-18 to program\, des
ign and build and compete with robots. \n\nActivities\nParticipants will l
isten to a presentation by Ayan’s Syntax of Smart Robotics Team showcasi
ng what they do as a robotics team. Your family will learn how the robot w
orks and even interact with the robot.\n\nNext\, you’ll have the opportu
nity to make a difference by repurposing plastic grocery bags to keep them
out of the landfill and our waterways! The robotics team will teach you h
ow to use the bags to make plarn\, a plastic yarn. All of the plarn made a
t this session will be donated to Mercy Mats of West Allis to crochet into
cushy sleeping mats to be distributed by Repairers of the Breach – Milw
aukee’s only daytime homeless resource center.\nImpact\nOutreach is a ve
ry big part of robotics and really helps the team share robotics with the
community. Kids will also make plarn to help make sleeping mats for the un
housed community and make sure they are supported. \n\nWhen &amp\; Where\n
 Saturday\, May 31 from 10:30 a.m. - Noon\n\nShorewood Public Library Commu

y room is found in the lower level of Shorewood Library. \nRegistration In
formation\nParticipant Cap: 35\nAge: All ages welcome\, presentation is ge
ared towards grades 2-8\nCost: Free\nQuestions: Email Ayan at juniorleader
4@kicmke.org with any specific questions.  \nCancellations: We count on o
ur registered volunteers to make these projects come to life. However\, we
understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you can no longer par
ticipate\, please email juniorleader4@kicmke.org ASAP so we can fill your
spot.\n\nOur Partner\nSince 2016 Mercy Mats West Allis has made 800+ mats
keeping 560\,000 plastic bags out of landfills! Learn more about Mercy Ma
ts from this Fox6 segment and on their Facebook page.\n\nJunior Leader
Program\nKIC invites more youth leaders (ages 9-14) to create service oppo
rtunities to engage their peers and work on solutions in the community. If
you know of a motivated youth who has an idea to make a positive contribu
tion to our community\, please have them learn more and complete a Junior
  Leader application.
