In partnership with the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA)\, KIC families will create art projects and kits that will be distributed by Kids Matter Inc.\, an organization that supports kinship and foster child ren.\n\nThese projects were inspired by MOWA’s current exhibition by tee n artists from local high schools across the area: When One Door Closes: A Teen Perspective on Change. Through art\, students explored the possibili ties that unfold when embracing change and being the change they wish to s ee in the world.\n\nNearly 100 children in Milwaukee County are removed fr om their homes each month because they are deemed unsafe\, according to Ch ildren’s Wisconsin. Kids Matter Inc. believes that every child needs som eone in their corner. Through staff and volunteers\, Kids Matter Inc. make s sure that children and their foster families get the support they need.  \nActivities\n\n \n\n - Birthday Crowns: Attendees will have the oppor tunity to make a crown to be included in Birthday Buddy Bags and make a cr own for themselves to take home.\n - Calming Art Kits:  Attendees will h elp paint large pieces of paper to create interesting patterns and texture s to collage with. They will then be cut into a variety of shapes. All of the elements will be put into a Ziploc bag along with an instruction/idea sheet so recipients understand the purpose of the activity kit. The final product will be a kit\, including a small journal and materials needed to create a collage. These kits will give foster kids something quiet to focu s on as they work through processing their changing situation.\n - Chalkb oard Room Signs: We all fill our living spaces with our favorite things an d mementos - it is what makes a house a home. Attendees will decorate chal kboard room signs. These room signs will enable the kids to personalize th eir space and help give them a sense of belonging. Whether they hang it on a bedroom door or above their bed\, it will help them establish their spa ce as their own. The kit will include a decorated chalkboard room sign\, c halk\, and a 3m hook for hanging.\n\n\n\n\nIf your child is up for a littl e extra responsibility at this event\, check out this Junior Leaders oppor tunity (ages 9-13)!\nImpact\nKids will learn how to support other kids goi ng through a difficult time.
