These cards will co ntain encouraging messages meant to uplift individuals who receive the kit s. Afterward\, we will work together in an assembly line to pack bags with hats\, mittens\, blankets\, socks\, and hand and feet warmers. Sharing the joy of costume s\, treats\, and community with our grandfriends at Saint John’s continu es to be a highlight every year.\n\nThat initial event led to our regular monthly intergenerational playgroups. Saint John’s is our original and l ongest running intergenerational playgroup!\nActivities\nCaregivers and ch ildren will trick-or-treat throughout the facility. Please have your child wear a costume (adults are welcome to dress up too!) \n\n You will be gre eted in the front entrance and then guided to trick-or-treat throughout th e first floor Town Center following a marked path. Treat stations are scat tered along the path and run by festive residents and huge smiles. \nAt t he end of the trick-or-treating trail\, you will exit into the South Cultu ral Arts Center. Staff will be serving hot dogs\, punch\, and treats to al l of the families who attend. Please feel free to eat and spend some time mingling with residents and other families. Bernie’s Book Bank focuses on under-re sourced communities\, where children ages birth-6th grade are the least li kely to have access to books of their own. Bernie’s annually delivers ei ght age-appropriate\, high-interest\, and culturally relevant books to hel p kids build an at-home library. In 2024-25\, they partnered with 60 MPS s chools!\nActivities\nVolunteers will be checking books for quality (separa ting out those with tears or loose binding)\, sorting used books into age- appropriate categories and placing an identifying sticker on each book tha t will later be bagged and distributed in MPS schools. \n\nFeel free to br ing a new or gently used book to donate and give the gift of reading!\nImp act\nOur kids will make a direct impact on other children by spreading the joy of literacy and helping prepare the books that kick start home librar ies for students across the Greater Milwaukee area.\n\nAccess to books is critical!
