Spring Garden Window Art for Milwaukee Senior Centers

April 7 - April 25

Milwaukee County boasts five Senior Centers whose windows are looking very drab. We need 30 kids to complete a variety of joyful spring garden art to bring some sunshine to our neighbors age 50 and better.

In a normal year, Milwaukee’s five senior centers offer older adults a space to socialize, exercise, eat together and participate in classes and programs. Though much of their programming has been limited to drive-thru lunch service or virtual programs – spring is coming! The Senior Centers will be increasing their outdoor social distant activities as the weather improves. The beautiful spring windows will bring joy to participants who attend outdoor activities and the 250 individuals that pick up their lunches each day. The windows will ensure that they feel connected to the broader community.

Purpose: To bring joy and cheer to older adults facing isolation and loneliness during this global pandemic.

Impact: Children will learn that the beautiful art they create can bring great joy to others.

Activity: Your child or children will decorate flowers, kites and butterflies to adorn the windows in a joyful spring garden display! Art kits will be supplied by Kids Impact Community. Along with the art kit, you will need scissors, washable markers, glue and either permanent markers or paint for the full-size kits. Feel free to use any other craft supplies you may have at home to add on to your projects. Creativity is encouraged! We will send additional instructions for each project in the confirmation email.

Materials for four projects will be distributed to each child based on age, with the simpler projects going to our youngest volunteers and the bigger pieces that may require a longer attention span going to our older volunteers. Feel free to partner up with other families or kids in your bubble to join in on the crafting fun!  Projects in your kit may include:

  • 9” flowers (color flowers with washable markers and then spritz lightly with water and watch the magic!)

  • Handprints on green cardstock (will serve as grass under our flowers)

  • Little kites to color

  • Full-size kite to decorate

  • Scratch-art tulips

  • Paper plate butterflies

Note: Please let us know if you do not have the necessary materials at your home, and we can work with you to secure them.
