National Day of Service – Brew Hero MKE Parks Clean Up Micro-Volunteering

September 11 - September 13

Be a hero by supporting our Milwaukee County Parks in honor of the heroes of 9/11!

For the past few years, KIC families have gathered as a large group to honor 9/11 victims, service workers and their families by doing a joint service project. Due to COVID-19, we are unable to join in-person as a large group. However, we would like to support our Milwaukee County Parks by inviting families to participate in their “micro-volunteering” MKE Brew Hero Park Clean Up Project. Families can participate “on their own, one stroll at a time, one bag at a time, one park at a time!”

Description of Event: Our Milwaukee County Parks need YOUR HELP to remain the beautiful resource to our families that they are! We encourage families to participate the weekend of 9/11 – 9/13, but we hope it is the start of several clean up adventures for your family this Fall!

Enjoy your Fall days and do the things you and your family do at the parks – enjoy a picnic, head to the beach, take a hike, bike the Oak Leaf Trail, explore new parks – and pick up a little litter as you go (recommend re-using plastic grocery bags or using small garbage bags). Then dispose of trash in receptacles throughout the parks.

An added bonus is that Brew Hero has a series of partners to help share tasty drinks with volunteers. You can earn the chance to win local beverages by using the hashtag #mkebrewhero and posting photos of your family park clean up adventures. Don’t forget to add #kicmke to your photos so we can feel the KIC Community LOVE and SERVICE!

Purpose: Help keep our Milwaukee County Parks beautiful by “micro-volunteering” with your family! Enjoy the parks while leaving them cleaner than when you came. Brew Hero is all about EXPLORATION and GIVING BACK, so visit some new parks and do a little good all at the same time.

Impact: We hope that all of the families participating will ENJOY the parks AND your their little hands to beautify the common spaces we all use and love. We hope that children will be to increase their awareness of their ability to contribute to beautifying our shared outdoor spaces. A little clean up by EVERYONE makes a BIG difference!
