MLK National Day of Service: On the Go Bag Pack
January 20 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Join Kids Impact Community for an all ages, family-friendly celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day through a day of service. We will be packing On the Go Bags for Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge. Together we will create more than 100 bags to share with our homeless neighbors throughout our greater Milwaukee community.
Purpose: To provide our children with the opportunity to do what they were born to do: LOVE! Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. as we guide our children to share compassion and respect the dignity of one another. This year is the 25th anniversary of MLK Day’s designation as a national day of service to encourage all Americans (including the youngest!) to volunteer to improve their communities.
Impact: Kids will see that serving together can be fun, and that they are capable of spreading warmth and love throughout Milwaukee.
Activities: We will gather together for a story and child-appropriate chat about homelessness. Then we will create On the Go Bags filled with items (such as hand warmers, chap sticks, hats, snacks, etc) to brighten the day for those currently living without a place to call home. After you register, we will send you an email with details of our time together and a handout with talking points/tips to support your children before, during and after this service project. In the registration link, you will have the opportunity to choose whether you want to donate items, contribute money to the project or simply join us to pack the kits. There will be a link to a Google doc in the email where you can sign up to bring items to contribute.

Alongside the necessities, Mr. Bob’s provides warm coffee and snacks, encouraging fellowship and creating a sense of community. In addition, the organization is now able to offer the opportunity to bathe in a new mobile shower trailer.
