May Day Baskets for Eastcastle

April 23 - April 28

KIC has been a long time supporter of developing connections between children and other generations. As Covid hit many of our traditional ways of meeting in groups with the elderly community came to a halt to protect their health. Many residents at Eastcastle Senior Living Facility have been restricted to their apartments as typical gatherings have been cancelled. This is an opportunity for your children to bring smiles to the faces of residents at Eastcastle by providing them with May Day Baskets decorated by your children. May Day baskets are small baskets that have traditionally been left on the doorsteps or hung on the doorknobs of friends, family, and neighbors on the first day of May. You can make your own May Day Baskets with your kids for the residents at Eastcastle for a fun way for all to celebrate spring!

Purpose: Your children will enjoy assembling the May Day Baskets to be hung on the doors of the residents at Eastcastle, adding cheerful spring patterns and colors to their hallways and rooms.

Impact: We hope that all of the children participating will grow in awareness of showing simple kindness to others.

Activities: Your family will assemble 10 May Day Baskets to be delivered to residents at Eastcastle. These baskets will be filled with beautiful homemade flowers to brighten up the residents’ rooms throughout spring!

When and Where: Your family will complete this project in your own home. Supplies can be picked up April 23 between 8am-8pm in Whitefish Bay (address will be provided after sign-up.)

Drop off the assembled baskets can be left in a bin outside this same address anytime before 8pm on April 28th. The May Day Baskets will then be delivered to Eastcastle on April 30th so that the residents can enjoy their May Day Basket surprise on May 1st!
