Lunch Box Notes and Suncatchers for Seniors

March 12, 2021 - March 31, 2021

Calling all artists! We invite your kids to paint suncatchers as a small gift of joy and sun to 250 older adults who live independently and participate in Milwaukee County’s Senior Dining Lunch Program. Write a sweet note or draw a little picture to include along with their suncatcher.

In a normal year, Milwaukee’s five senior centers offer adults 50 or better a space to socialize, exercise, eat together and participate in classes and programs. With all of this programming limited to drive-thru lunch service, virtual programs or minimal outdoor activities, our suncatchers and lunch box notes will help participants feel connected to one another and the community.

Purpose: To bring joy and sun to older adults facing isolation and loneliness during this global pandemic.

Impact: Children will learn that something they create can bring joy to others.

Activity: Your child or children will each decorate five suncatchers using the kits supplied by Kids Impact Community. The kits include: 5 suncatcher forms (butterflies and flowers), suncatcher paint, cord, suction cups and gift bags.

  • Decorate suncatchers

  • Write a lunch box note or drawing

  • Include a photo of your child(ren) creating the suncatcher or just waving and saying hi (printed on regular paper is fine or even add it to your lunch box note; can be at an angle that does not show their face if you are more comfortable with that)

  • Put completed suncatcher, suction cup, lunch box note and photo in the provided gift bag

The suncatchers and notes will be distributed at the beginning of April.

When and Where:

Assemble at your own home.

Your family will pick up a prepared suncatcher kit from the front porch at addresses in Bayside, Cedarburg and Whitefish Bay beginning March 12. Addresses supplied following registration. Return completed artwork in the gift bags to the same addresses by March 31.

Participant Cap: 50 kits

Each kit will have the supplies to make 5 suncatchers. Grab one kit for each of your children.

Registration: REGISTER HERE

Age: All ages!

Cost: Free

Materials: Suncatcher kits and blank paper, scissors, crayons or markers to decorate the lunch box notes.

Questions:  Please contact Ali Briggs at ali@kicmke.org with any questions.
