Littles Lifting Up Littles for St. Francis Children’s Center
October 5 - October 30
Has your little one outgrown some of their learning toys? Does your child have “doubles” of toys they could share with others? Would your child like to host a “toy sale” or “lemonade stand” to raise money to purchase items for kids who need a little extra support this school year? Consider taking an hour or two to purchase new or collect gently used items to donate to the children of St. Francis Children’s Center.
Description of Event: During the month of October, we would like to collect items to gift to children receiving at-home therapies and services through the staff of St. Francis Children’s Center’s Birth-to-Three Program. Services are provided to families regardless of their ability to pay. Some of the participants do not have toys, books or art supplies in their homes so the teachers, therapists, caregivers and kids have been finding creative solutions to completing daily tasks and therapies. In the past, the staff members would have been able to bring toys with them, but that isn’t an option anymore due to COVID and the design of online/telehealth.
The therapists created a wishlist of inexpensive things that would help enhance their work and the children’s learning. In September, KIC provided several items to kick-off the new school year, but we need our families’ help to build “toy and supply collections” for these young children.
Purpose: We will collect the following items to enhance learning experiences for children receiving at-home services through St. Francis Children’s Center. The items can be new or in dignity-condition. Our goal is to provide gifts to 50 children.
High needs inexpensive items include:
- Board book(s) with simple rhymes / songs
- Cube blocks
- Basic baby doll
- Plastic mirror
- Plastic animals / food / vehicles
- Simple wooden puzzles – 3 to 4 pieces
- Echo microphones
- pop up toys
- Ring standers
- lacing cards
- large string beads
- play dough
- play dough scissors
- shape sorters
- see and say
- dot paints
- pop tubes
- sensory bottles
Impact: We hope that all of the children participating will grow in awareness of their capability to help others and be mindful of ways to share quality toys/supplies and the love of learning with other children.
Activities: Purchase new or collect gently used items from the list of needs. Donation boxes will be set out near front doors during on Monday, October 5th through Friday, October 30th between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.
