Lawn of Love

July 16

Help us bring joy during this time of isolation to residents at nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers throughout Milwaukee through a pop-up lawn display we are calling Lawn of Love. We need young artists to decorate yard signs and families to take down and set up the display each week over the next few months.

Older adults have a special place in our heart. Kids Impact Community has hosted intergenerational playgroups since the organization’s inception. Our kiddos have learned patience, kindness and how to make new friends of all ages, and our grandfriends benefit tremendously from the interaction with our children.

As you well know, older adults are the population most vulnerable to COVID-19. Nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers have ended visitation and shuttered nearly all of the gathering places for older adults across the country in an effort to protect them from the disease. Though necessary, these efforts can have a devastating effect on a population who already faces an increased risk for loneliness and social isolation.

Purpose: Show our grandfriends that they are not alone, they are loved, and we miss them.

Impact: We hope that all of the children participating will grow in awareness of their capability to spread love and kindness to others when their community needs it most.

What: We are in need of families able to take down and install the Lawn of Love display at partner nursing homes, assisted living facilities and senior centers. We will supply you with the address and details as to where on the property the display should go up. Your family will gather the display from one location and set it up at the next. The display includes 18” tall letters that read “You Are Loved”, youth art signs (18 x 24), yard flamingos and big heart signs. Everything will easily fit inside your trunk. Help us bring joy to all of the residents who can see the display!
When and Where: Indicate the dates that work for your family during registration. Final dates will be assigned by mid-July. Complete the installation at the time of day that works best for your family: morning, afternoon or evening.
