Kinship Community Food Center At Home Project: Granola Bake and Share

June 16 - June 26

Kinship Community Food Center (formerly Riverwest Food Pantry) serves families in the Riverwest, Harambee and surrounding Milwaukee communities, with an average income below $1,300 per month.  They engage volunteers & neighborhood residents to end hunger, isolation, and poverty.  Kinship Community Food Center is dedicated to help residents build community, improve nutritional health, and reduce poverty through the power of food.

Kids Impact Community is excited to support Kinship Community Food Center by providing two volunteering opportunities: Granola Bake & Share and Serving Pantry Guests.

Purpose: Help communities experiencing food insecurity with nourishing food options!

Impact: Provide kids with the opportunity to learn more about food insecurity, the importance of nutritional meals and how they can help!

Activities: Bake and share granola as well as the granola recipe!  Follow this granola recipe or your family’s favorite recipe, your family will bake and pack granola in a resealable kraft paper bag provided by Kids Impact Community (holds about 4 cups – one batch of baked granola from the provided recipe can fill about 1.5 bags) to share with Kinship Community Food Center guests.  We would like to offer nourishing food options for the guests, so we ask that participating families use a granola recipe that has no more than 10 grams of sugar per 1 serving.  Use this recipe nutrition calculator website to check for sugar content.  Additionally, you will provide the granola recipe by attaching the recipe to or writing down the recipe on the paper bag to inspire pantry guests to do the same at home.

Materials: Kids Impact Community will provide packaging materials.  You will be responsible for granola ingredients.
