Joyful Bulletin Boards for Milwaukee Senior Centers

April 26

Kids Impact Community is seeking two crafty and creative families to design and create bulletin board displays for two of Milwaukee County’s Senior Centers to bring some sunshine to our neighbors age 50 and better.

In a normal year, Milwaukee’s senior centers offer older adults a space to socialize, exercise, eat together and participate in classes and programs. Though much of their programming has been limited to drive-thru lunch service or virtual programs – spring is coming! The Senior Centers will be increasing their outdoor socially distant activities as the weather improves.

Additionally, plans are in the works to open more fully at the beginning of May. Staff are busy making preparations and could use our help! McGovern Park and Clinton Rose Senior Centers would each like to decorate large bulletin boards to once again welcome guests into their buildings. These bulletin boards are used to promote the many events run at the centers, such as fashion shows, rummage sales, jewelry classes, exercise classes etc.

Purpose: To bring joy and cheer to older adults as they are welcomed back to some safe in-person activities at their Senior Center.

Impact: Children will learn that the beautiful art they create can bring great joy to others.

Activity: This project is ideal for a family of artists or crafters! It is also ideal for any older kids who need volunteer hours or a scout troop or other group looking for a service project!

I will provide the size of the bulletin board and a wish list for what the Senior Center staff is looking for as well as specific information about how they utilize the bulletin board. Your role is to decide how to decorate it! We are putting this all in your hands! Get creative. Search pinterest for some inspiration. Scrounge in those art supplies gathering dust in a closet. Pester grandma and grandpa for those fabric scraps still floating around. Make a masterpiece!

Kids Impact Community will provide roll paper for a backdrop and a pack of cardstock to use.

When and Where:

Design the bulletin boards and create the necessary art at your own home. Return completed decorations to Bayside or directly to the Senior Centers by Monday, April 26.

Participant Cap: 2 families/groups

Registration: REGISTER HERE

Age: All ages!

Cost: You may need to purchase or utilize some of your own arts and craft materials. But, please let us know if you are not able to and we will get you what you need!
