Hygiene and Humanity Supply Drive for Friends of All Abilities

July 6 - July 25

Everybody has wonderful strengths and abilities that can be celebrated! Unfortunately, in our society there are many negative stereotypes about people with differing abilities. Nearly one in four Americans lives with a disability. It is important that we teach our children at an early age to treat everyone with kindness, love and dignity.

Though we hope to get back to in-person projects soon with Life Navigators through supporting their clients at sporting events, theatre, game nights, etc, we need your family’s help to support the emergency hygiene supply closet!

Life Navigators social workers and nurses deliver emergency supply bags to kids and adults with disabilities who are in need.  As part of the Self-Advocacy and Independence program this Emergency Needs Fund provides food, clothing and basic living supplies to allow individuals to be safe, happy and healthy. Last year, needs were up and they delivered 500 emergency supply bags!

Life Navigators was founded by parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Based in Wauwatosa, the organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, their families and the community. The organization serves over 4,800 individuals annually through:

  • information and education

  • Programs that teach people how to get the support they need so that they can live on their own

  • money management help

  • corporate guardianship

  • family support

  • long-term care services if they need some extra help to live independently.

Purpose: To provide our children and their grownups the opportunity to build an understanding of the experiences of kids and adults with differing abilities.

Impact: To de-stigmatize the notion of disability in the minds of children and encourage friendships amongst kids of all abilities by supporting our friends at Life Navigators.
