Gardening for Good – Hoop House
September 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am
Join us this fall to help The Urban Farm Collaborative harvest fresh produce such as tomatoes, zucchini, and peppers that will be provided to shoppers at the Riverwest Food Pantry! The Urban Farm Collaborative is a partnership between Groundwork Milwaukee and Riverwest Food Pantry and currently has 11 “hoop houses” ready to provide fresh local food to those in need!
Purpose: Kids will have the opportunity to get dirty, tend and explore the garden, and harvest food to donate to the Riverwest Food Pantry!
Impact: Enjoy a fun, hands on experience gardening while learning about the food insecurity in our local community.
Activities: Kids will be gardening inside the “hoop houses” planting, harvesting, weeding, moving soil, and all things related to general maintenance of the site. We will be sure to respect social distancing between families by keeping 6 feet apart and assigning each family their own hoop house to harvest.
When and Where: There will be several dates to garden this fall:
- September 1
- September 8
- September 10
- September 15
- September 17
- September 22
- September 24
- September 29
The shifts are from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. The “hoop houses” are located at the Maglio Tomato Building, 4287 N Port Washington Road, Milwaukee, WI 53212. Please park in the lot on the North side of the building and walk through the fence to the big “hoop houses.”

Participant Cap: 3 families
Age: All ages welcome!
Materials: Dress in layers as “hoop houses” tend to be hotter than outside temperatures and be ready to get dirty! In addition, please be prepared to wear a mask.
