Gardening for Good – Atwater Community Garden
July 1, 2019 @ 8:00 am - September 28, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
Gardening for Good – Atwater Community Garden (Year 3!)
Saturday, June 8, 2019 through Saturday, September 28, 2019
Atwater Elementary School Gardens
2100 E. Capitol Dr., Shorewood, WI 53211
As part of our Summer Gardening for Good Series, Kids Impact Community has once again rented a garden plot at Atwater Elementary School in Shorewood. Families will have the opportunity to get dirty, tend and explore the garden, and harvest food to donate to our local partners at Riverwest Food Pantry. Green thumbs are not required. If you should have questions or need assistance during your week, we will provide that!
PURPOSE: Take responsibility for and nurture a community garden with your family for one week (Monday through Sunday) this summer at Atwater Elementary School.
IMPACT: In addition to the immediate benefits of gardening with family, the Riverwest Food Pantry will receive harvested crop donations from our garden.
ACTIVITIES: Saturday, June 8, 9:00-10:00am – Gardening Orientation and Planting Day at our Atwater Plots (rain date Sunday, June 9, 3:00-4:00pm); all participating families will have the opportunity to plant seeds and seedlings.
All summer, each family will take ONE WEEK (Monday through Sunday) to weed and tend the garden. The week of September 15th, we will invite the families to come back to the garden to harvest the crops. During your family’s assigned week, we ask you stop by at least three times to tend the garden. Once our participating families have registered, we will communicate the “planting and harvest days” via email.
