Fall Clean Up for Seniors 2020
October 1 - October 31
This is our fifth year participating with the Eras Senior Network for yard clean up events. In years past, we jointly met on Make a Difference Day to do yard work at seniors’ homes. However, this fall we will assign one volunteer family to one senior’s home (think “adopt-a-grandfriend’s yard”). While remaining socially-distanced, we will be assisting elderly individuals in Milwaukee County prepare their yards for winter. Your family will have the month of October to complete the yard work (it does not have to be completed in one day).
Purpose: We will help elderly homeowners get ready for winter by assisting with yard work. In addition, our children will get the opportunity to see the results of their efforts. (Enjoying the beautiful fall weather and allowing the kids to burn off extra energy will be a bonus, as well!)
Impact: We hope that all of the children participating will see that hard work pays off and that they too can have an impact on the lives of Milwaukee’s most vulnerable.
Activities: We will be doing yard work that may include raking, trimming bushes and pulling weeds. We understand the attention of each child is different – so rest breaks are encouraged to make this a meaningful but FUN time! Remember…the yard work tasks do not need to be completed in one day. You can communicate with the homeowner about days/times that work for you to visit.
We will assign one family to one senior’s home. However, we know that there is often a lot of work to be completed in the fall. If you have a KIC family that you would like to join you, please indicate the “partner family” name in the registration and we will assign the two families to one home.
When and where: Exact addresses in Milwaukee County will be given once registration is complete for the sake of confidentiality. We will make every attempt to assign you a home close to your residence. We will give you a phone number to directly contact the homeowner prior to your visit. Due to COVID-19 related concerns, we ask that communication occurs via phone (not face-to-face).
Cancellations: Please contact email@example.com asap in the event of a cancellation so we can add waitlisted families to the event.
Participant Cap: 20 families (for 20 homes) You may sign up for one or two homes/yards.
Age range: All are welcome to help however they can.
Materials: Please bring your OWN yard tools such as gloves, rakes, bags, tarps, hedge trimmer or leaf blower (if you have them) for yourself and your child.
Questions: Please contact Lynn Raines firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. We will send you an email to confirm registration and homeowner contact information before the event.
